Charlamagne Tha God Compares Drake’s ‘Honestly, Nevermind’ Album To ‘Elevator Music’

Drake delivered his surprise seventh studio album on Friday (June 17), much to the delight of his millions of fans. Titled Honestly, Nevermind, the 14-track project featured a lone contribution from 21 Savage. As fans and critics ravenously devour the album, people are weighing in on the unexpected follow-up to 2021’s Certified Lover Boy — including Charlamagne Tha God.

The Breakfast Club co-host, who is never shy about voicing his opinions, likened the music to elevator music in the same vein as, let’s say, Kenny G.

“I don’t mind the vibes you know the vibes to me are the vibes you hear when you’re at a Beverley Hills luxury hotel,” Charlamagne explained. “This is lobby, elevator music. This is the vibes when you sitting in the lobby of the SLS hotel having some drinks on a leather couch with the lights dimly lit.

‘You got a suit on, no tie, first couple of buttons on your shirt open, some slippers on, loafers no socks. I’m never going to revisit the album again but if it comes on when I’m in the lobby of a luxury hotel, I’m not mad at it.”

But that was mild compared to what some people are saying on Twitter. There are plenty of people who straight up hate the project and have called it Drake’s worst album yet.

One person wrote, “Drake really made an album full of songs that you hear in the background of a shopping mall,” while another said, “It’s giving me…very much forever 21, Hollister, Abercrombie & Fitch, Hobby Lobby background music, but it is an album.”

Drake already addressed the backlash to Honestly, Nevermind on social media, saying, “It’s all good if you don’t get it yet. That’s what we do! We wait for you to catch up. We in here, though, we caught up already. On to the next. My goodness!”
