COOK COUNTY, IL – Chance The Rapper is countersuing his former manager Pat Corcoran. According to legal documents obtained by the Chicago Tribune, Chance filed a lawsuit against Corcoran — a.k.a. Pat The Manager — last week with Cook County court in Illinois.

Corcoran and Chance stopped working together in April 2020 after nearly eight years alongside one another. Pat The Manager filed a lawsuit against Chance in November 2020 seeking about $3 million in alleged unpaid commissions.

The Coloring Book rapper is looking to have various counts in the suit against him thrown out. With his own claims, he’s demanding more than $3 million in total from the three counts in the lawsuit filed against Corcoran.

Chance claims Corcoran essentially “sabotaged” a deal he had in place to become one of the faces of United Masters. He also blasted his longtime manager by saying when he met him, Corcoran barely held a position on the “fringes of the rap music scene in Chicago.”

“Mr. Corcoran has been paid in full under his management services contract with Mr. Bennett,” Chance’s attorneys told the Tribune. “Yet he chose to file a groundless and insulting lawsuit that ignores his own improper self-dealing and incompetence.

The legal team continued, “Mr. Bennett has moved to dismiss the majority of that meritless lawsuit, and filed his own lawsuit to remedy the harm that Mr. Corcoran caused through his breaches of duty. Mr. Bennett trusts the legal system to reveal the truth of the parties’ relationship in due course.”

Additionally, Chance’s legal team confronts Corcoran about the many alleged instances he leveraged his position close to Chance to have equity carved out for himself unfairly in business deals. Specific examples are mentioned regarding merchandise vendors, reviving the Ramova Theater and having Live Nation buy up his wine as part of a deal for Chance’s tour under them.

Corcoran’s attorneys responded, “Rather than confront the substance of Pat the Manager’s claims, the defendants have elected to attack Mr. Corcoran’s character and rewrite history. The aspersions cast by the Chance camp are offensive and do not reflect the reality of the relationship that Mr. Corcoran and Mr. Bennett developed over many years of collaboration. The results of the pair’s fruitful teamwork—and the contrasting results when Mr. Corcoran was sidelined—are evident to the public.”

Chance’s holiday-themed Merry Christmas Lil Mama: The Gift That Keeps on Giving reissued project with Jeremih arrived in December 2020.
