In an Instagram Live video that resurfaced over the weekend, Cardi B got emotional when explaining the lengths she's had to go to make it in the music industry. At one point in the clip from three years ago, Bardi even admitted to drugging and robbing men who wanted to have sex with her during her time as a stripper in New York just to get by.
"I had to go strip, I had to go, ‘Oh yeah, you want to fuck me? Yeah, let’s go back to this hotel.' And I drugged n—as up and I robbed them. That’s what I used to do," she said.
With Cardi's statements going viral, her detractors joined together in getting the hashtag #SurvivingCardiB to trend on Twitter, a reference to the harrowing Surviving R. Kelly docuseries. Some have even called for Cardi to be canceled or thrown in jail and even compared her to Bill Cosby.
"I never claim to be a angel I always been a street bitch. Ya be glorifying this street rappers that talk and do that grimmey street shit but they can’t stand a street bitch," Cardi tweeted regarding the unfair double standards in hip-hop for female MCs.
Cardi has since stated that she would be stepping away from Twitter for a few days but left followers with a final message Monday night: "IM THAT BITCH THEY LOVE TO HATE,IM THAT BITCH THEY HATE TO LOVE and I love it."
The Grammy-winning rapper posted a lengthy response to the resurfaced video on Instagram Tuesday (March 26), where she explained that she's not in denial of her past, but is only trying to be a better person going forward.
