It has just been announced that She's Gotta Have It's DeWanda Wise will join the cast the upcoming Captain Marvel film, which also stars Brie Larson in the title role. Out Marvel's 21 films, this is the first to feature a female lead superhero, unless you count the upcoming Ant-Man & The Wasp, which features former Lost star Evangeline Lilly co-starring with Paul Rudd.

The specifics around Wise's role in the film have not yet been released; however, it is exciting to see an up-and-coming starlet achieve notoriety in a beloved Hollywood franchise as successful as the MCU.
Wise will join the already confirmed cast including Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Jude Law, and Ben Mendelsohn. The film is slated for a March 2019 release-date, with Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck assuming the role director.
DeWanda confirmed the news on her personal Instagram account, exclaiming "It’s true. On my way to join the @Marvel Universe. Thank you for the beautiful outpouring yaaaaasssssedness. Been holding this secret for a moment, and I STILL can’t believe it."
