Camila Cabello Reveals How Her Friendship With Taylor Swift Began

Few — if any — artists this generation are as notorious for penning breakup songs as Taylor Swift. For that reason alone, it shouldn't come as a surprise that her friendship with Reputation Tour opener Camila Cabello stemmed from the latter's first heartbreak, as detailed by the “Havana” singer in a Rolling Stone cover story on Wednesday (May 30).

Cabello was apparently still in post-breakup mode when mutual friend Hailee Steinfeld introduced the hitmaking pair, likely knowing Swift would have plenty wisdom to pass down.

“Swift] sent me a breakup playlist and said, ‘Come over. Let's talk about it,' ” Cabello said. “I think the Haim girls were there. It was, like, a girls-night thing.”

To call Swift candid in her songwriting is ten an understatement, but her method “just writing it out” is advice she evidently engrained into Cabello. The ex-Fifth Harmony member admitted: “There were so many songs that didn't make my album that were just me getting it out.”

Romantic fallouts aside, Cabello described her departure from the girl group as being “as painful as a breakup, a five-year-breakup,” likely inspiring the dark original name  her debut solo effort: The Hurting, the Healing, the Loving.

The now-named Camila has proven since its release that Cabello is feeling more on top than ever before, especially as she “shakes it f” along with new BFF Swift on her Reputation Tour.
