Brandi Carlile Shares Advice for Aspiring LGBTQ Musicians: ‘Find a Community, Don’t Dive Up’


Brandi Carlile stopped to talk with Billboard’s Tetris Kelly on the pink carpet at Clive Davis' Pre-Grammy Gala on Saturday (Feb. 9), discussing what her post-Grammy plans are and sharing recommendation for younger LGBTQ individuals aspiring to make it within the music enterprise.

Asked how she plans to loosen up after the Grammys, Carlile tells Billboard that she is occurring a trip together with her spouse and her two infants. “I'm gonna thank them for supporting my loopy life this 12 months,” she provides.

Carlile can also be posed with the query of what recommendation she would give to younger LGBTQ individuals who want to work in music. “The very first thing I might say is it's fully doable,” she replies.

“The Grammys was one thing I used to be allowed to remain up late for … to see if Whitney and Celine may hit the notes and since they may, I knew that, as a lady, I may very well be an enormous singer and have an enormous voice and possibly some day be at The Grammys,” she continues. “And if there's someplace an LGBTQ youngster that's allowed to remain up late at evening to see me hit the notes tomorrow evening, then I've finished my job in an enormous manner. You can do it. Find a neighborhood. Don't surrender.”
