BLEU Reflects On Humble Beginnings With Throwback Music Video: ‘Shit almost made me cry’

In his recent Instagram post, 2021 HipHopDX Rising Star alumnus BLEU just gave the phrase, “got it out the mud” a whole new meaning.

On Friday (February 4), BLEU shared a low-resolution video clip in a post featuring one of his early rap records and cameos from several of the day one homies he started out with in Alabama during the beginning of his career as “Yung Bleu.”

“WHERE YALL FIND THIS,” BLEU wrote in the caption. “Wooow ! Mannnnnnn ! this was so long ago years ago in the bottom I was a lil bad azz dudeee mannnn we was struggling and thuggin shit almost made me cry watching this.” He continued, revealing the partners he’s posted up in the video with have not been as fortunate as he has in life, despite the bond they shared. “MOST OF everybody IN THIS VIDEO EITHER GOTTa LIFE SENTENCE OR STILL BEHind THE FENCE and I made it,” BLEU wrote. “Ain’t have not 1 dollar to my name free mane! Free dem boys ASAP my jeans was so dirty boy.”

Though it appears BLEU started out his musical journey as a lyricist, he has since rebranded and opted to go the R&B route.

Last September, he shed the “Yung” prefix from his stage name following the success of his debut album Moon Boy, which is home to his Drake-assisted Billboard Hot 100 Chart hit “You’re Mines Still.”

He’s also begun sharpening his production skills and recently set his rate for beats at a minimum of $50,000 after securing his first placement as a producer with none other than New Orleans Hip Hop legend Lil Wayne.
