Blake Shelton Shades ‘Old Town Road’ On New Song ‘Hell Right’ With Trace Adkins: Listen

Blake Shelton teams up with Trace Adkins again on the infectious “Hell Right,” out today (Aug. 16), and it’s a barnburner. Penned by David Garcia, Brett Tyler and Michael Hardy, “Hell Right” sees Shelton taking a jab at Lil Nas X’s massive hit “Old Town Road” on the second verse.

“Couple girls with their boots on/ Got their Bluetooth on/ T-shirt sayin’ ‘Go Sooners’/ Then the girl from the small town/ Took off the Old Town, put on a little Hank Jr.,” Shelton croons before Adkins chimes in, “Thank God.”

Shelton and Adkins prove to be fitting collaborators following the success of “Hillbilly Bone,” released a decade ago. This time, Shelton says “Hell Right” is about “taking things to the max.”

“You can raise hell, or you can raise hell right,” Shelton says in a statement. “It’s about cutting loose and having fun the right way. I spend a lot of time in Los Angeles these days, but when I hear songs like this on the radio, I am immediately thinking about being back home and what I’d be doing if I was there. The first time I heard ‘God’s Country’ I was on my ranch in Oklahoma. As a guy who actually lives this lifestyle, ‘Hell Right’ hits me in the soul now just as much as ‘God’s Country’ did then.”

“Hell Right” follows the success of Shelton’s most recent Hot Country Songs No. 1 hit “God’s Country.”
