It seems like almost every week Black Panther breaks some new kind box fice record, and the film's success doesn't seem to be slowing down any time soon. The most recent box fice update has Marvel's Wakandan epic making its way to some pretty impressive placements on some very coveted lists.
According to Variety, the Ryan Coogler-directed film has grosses $1.28 billion worldwide, ficially passing Disney's Frozen for its number 10 spot on the highest grossing movies worldwide. Black Panther's domestic take $652.5 million places it as the fourth highest grossing domestic film, passing JurassicWorld and placing it only a few million behind the number 3 film, James Cameron's Titanic, which grossed $659.4 million.
Black Panther is still holding strong at the box fice, even seven weeks after its release, so it's entirely possible that we'll be seeing the film move up another spot or two before it leaves theaters. The next film in the top 10 is Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which currently holds a $54 million lead over Black Panther. Depending on the strength its next couple weeks at the box fice, Black Panther could have a serious shot at overtaking it.
Of course it's coming up on some heavy competition, as Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War (which also happens to feature an appearance from Black Panther) drops on the 25th, and is sure to be a box fice smash. Regardless whether or not Black Panther continues its hot streak, it's clear that Marvel will just keep on winning, and that our collective obsession with superhero films isn't going away any time soon.
