Big Sean Gets Props From Nas – But Still Misses G.O.O.D. Music’s ‘Brotherhood’

Big Sean has always been an open book, both in his music and on social media. This week, the Detroit rapper highlighted how Hip Hop stardom (or life, for that matter) comes with both highs and lows while getting a few things off his chest.

Sean Don took to Twitter on Thursday (October 21) to reveal that Nas congratulated him via text following his blistering L.A. Leakers freestyle. The pair have collaborated numerous times together, including on “Replace Me” and “First Chain,” but the moment was nevertheless “crazy AF” to Sean.

“Nas just txt me saying ‘you murdered these freestyles thanks for pushing us all’ that’s crazy AF to me when I really thought about Nas txt’n me that,” he wrote. “I’m at the crib right now in Detroit n I’m just feeling grateful I actually am doing what I said I would. Shit feel like a dream.”

In his nearly nine-minute L.A. Leakers freestyle, Big Sean rapped about kicking it with Kobe Bryant, NBA players shooting their shot at his girlfriend Jhené Aiko and the Tuskegee experiment while unloading bars over Memphis Bleek’s “Dear Summer,” Drake‘s “Love All,” Kanye West‘s “Hurricane” and Nardo Wick’s “Who Want Smoke??”

Sean also name-dropped Nas by spitting, “Man, too much pain soaked up, I had to spill/No wonder why I’m doing songs with Nas, I got mass appeal,” referencing the Queensbridge legend’s investment stake in Mass Appeal.

However, a nod of approval from Nas isn’t stopping Big Sean from missing the good ol’ days (no pun intended) with Kanye West and co.

“I also really miss the brotherhood I use to have with GOOD music, I don’t know what happened,” he later tweeted. “Guess those the GOOD ol days. It’s all love, but we use to really be clique’d up.”

Big Sean signed to Kanye West‘s G.O.O.D. Music imprint in 2007 after approaching him at a radio station in Detroit and impressing him with a freestyle. Alongside an eclectic crew that included Pusha T, Kid Cudi, Common, Q-Tip, Mos Def, John Legend, CyHi The Prynce and Teyana Taylor, Sean was a key part of the label’s heyday between the late ’00s and early ’10s.

The Kanye-lead collective took over the rap game in 2010 with their spree of G.O.O.D. Fridays releases — including posse cuts such as “G.O.O.D. Friday,” “Christian Dior Denim Flow” and “Looking For Trouble” — before coming together for the 2012 compilation album, Cruel Summer, which spawned Big Sean-assisted hits such as “Mercy,” “Clique” and a remix of Chief Keef’s “I Don’t Like.”

However, the group has all but parted ways in the years since, with only Pusha T (who has taken over as G.O.O.D. Music president) and Q-Tip (who has yet to release a single project on the label) surviving the changes to the roster.

One G.O.O.D. Music compatriot Big Sean has remained close with, however, is Hit-Boy. After joining forces on last year’s Detroit 2, Sean Don and the former Very G.O.O.D. Beats producer have reunited for a new track called “What A Life,” which arrived on Friday (October 22).

According to Sean, there’s a lot more where this song came from — including the accompanying music video, which is expected to drop at noon EST today.

“Been locked in and have a lot planned for anybody who supporting n ride for me,” he tweeted. “Ain’t fans, y’all fam at this point! New music, merch, bars, ideas, energy, etc, basically just all sides of me I wanna share! If u got love for me I need to see you step up for me, and show up 4 me!”
