Beyoncé Lands 3 2019 Emmy Nominations — Will Oscar & Grammy Nods Follow?

At the risk of getting ahead of ourselves, Beyoncé could even win at all three awards shows. That would mirror Bob Fosse’s legendary awards run in 1973.

Beyoncé  is about to begin what is shaping up to be a very busy awards season. She received three Emmy noms Tuesday (July 16) for her work on Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé. (The film received six in all, but even Beyoncé can't do everything by herself.) She may also be headed for an Oscar nom for "Spirit," which she co-wrote for the live-action reboot of The Lion King, in which she stars. And she could be headed for multiple Grammy noms, including best urban contemporary album for Homecoming: The Live Album, best music film for Homecoming, and best song written for visual media for "Spirit."

At the risk of getting ahead of ourselves, Beyoncé could even win at all three award shows. That would mirror Bob Fosse's legendary awards show run in 1973, when, in the space of two months, he won an Oscar for directing Cabaret, two Tonys for his work on Pippin and three Emmys for his work on Liza Minnelli's Liza With a Z.

Beyonce's three Emmy noms for Homecoming are for outstanding directing for a variety special (shared with Ed Burke), outstanding music direction (shared with Derek Dixie) and outstanding writing for a variety special.

The show's three other noms are for outstanding variety special (pre-recorded), outstanding production design for a variety special (Ric Lipson, Rachel Duncan and Andrew Makadsi) and outstanding costumes for variety, nonfiction or reality programming (Marni Senofonte, Oliver Rousteing and Timothy White). (The final nomination credits don't appear to have been decided for any of the contenders for outstanding variety special [pre-recorded], so Beyonce's noms tally for this show could swell to four.)

Beyoncé had received three previous Emmy noms, though she has yet to win. She was nominated for outstanding special class programs (2015) for On the Run, a collaboration with her husband, Jay Z. She was nominated for two awards for Lemonade (2016): outstanding variety, music or comedy special and outstanding directing for a variety special.

Beyoncé co-wrote "Spirit" with Ilya Salmanzadeh and Labrinth.

Beyoncé has received 66 Grammy nominations, more than any other female artist, resulting in 23 wins.

She is still looking for her first Oscar nom, though she and Jennifer Hudson performed all three of the nominated songs from Dreamgirls (2006) on the 2007 Oscar telecast.
