Bebe Rexha romanced The Tonight Show with a uncooked string-backed rendition of “Knees” from her album Expectations on Thursday evening (Dec. 20).
The 29-year-old pop singer — sporting a Marilyn Monroe-esque ensemble composed of a shiny floor-length robe, blonde bob and darkish crimson lips — opened on a stage draped with pink curtains. Her three violinists and cellist — sporting matching glittery getups — led her into the opening verse: “Sittin' in a parked automobile/ We don't even battle no extra/ We don't even contact no extra/ Used to be my finest good friend/ We don't even chortle no extra/ Barely even speak no extra."
Her smokey voice grew brighter on the refrain: “If I'm not all you want/ Then simply set me free/ I’m down on my knees/ If you're not the one for me/ Then simply let me be/ I’m begging you please.”
The disco ball above Rexha lit up and spun, and shortly after a curtain behind her dropped to disclose a wall coated in lights.
