Banks is back. Two years after releasing "Underdog," the singer stormed back with a vengeance on Monday morning (April 29) with the hard-hitting "Gimme."
"Gimme" amps up the singer's patented mix of grinding, funky beats and ethereal vocals with a more aggressive, distorted track, spare, bouncing keyboards and pitched vocal effects for a song that, as she says, makes it very clear that she's ready to get what she wants, when she wants it. "You can call me that bitch," she sings in the lead-up to the thumping chorus.
The dark, beat-heavy track debuted on Zen Lowe's World Record on Apple Music's Beats 1 and is available on all streaming services now. "'Gimme' is a song about getting what you want. It's about knowing what you deserve, saying it out loud, and demanding it with no apologies," she said in a statement announcing the track. "I'm ready to release this into the world and begin a new chapter."
The track was co-written with Buddy Ross (Frank Ocean) and co-produced by Hudson Mowkawke (Kanye West) and BJ Burton (Bon Iver). At press time, no additional information was available about the follow-up to Banks' 2016 album The Altar.
