In honor of the Backstreet Boys' iconic album Millennium turning 20 this weekend, the BSB guys are gifting fans with a celebratory present: An acoustic version of "I Want It That Way."
The Backstreet Boys surprise-dropped a "Reimagined" version of their classic hit at midnight Friday (May 17), one day before the official anniversary of Millennium's May 18, 1999 release. The new rendition swaps the song's emphatic production for acoustic guitars, putting their voices and trademark harmonies at the forefront (subsequently sending the BSB fandom into a frenzy).
BSB paid tribute to their supporters, and offered up the reimagined cut as a way of saying thank-you." "Believe us when we say, no one else comes close to having as amazing fans as we do! It’s gotta be you guys, We would never be able to say enough ‘thank yous’ but wanted to share a little something to show how grateful we are," the boys say in a statement.
Howie B tweeted, "Thank you for all of the love and support! This one was made especially for you and to celebrate our 20 years of Millennium together."
"I Want It That Way: Reimagined" is one of the many ways the Backstreet Boys have been celebrating the 20th anniversary of Millennium with their fans. The group posted several #Millennium20 posts throughout the week, including their memory-filled video for "The One" and special editions of the "Larger Than Life" and "Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely" videos with fun facts.
The guys just kicked off their massive 70-date DNA World Tour — their biggest tour in nearly 20 years — in Lisbon, Portugal, on May 11. They'll perform all around Europe before heading back to North America on July 12, starting in Washington, DC.
