Avicii’s ‘Tough Love’ Features Indian String Arrangements, Vargas & Lagola, Agnes: Listen

The mission to complete Avicii's musical map continues, but in light of the beloved artist's passing in 2018, fans rely on his closest collaborators to hold the compass true. In April, we heard his first posthumous single, "S.O.S." featuring Aloe Blacc and co-producers Albin Nedler and Kristoffer Fogelmark. Today (May 10), we hear a worldly pop sound featuring Indian string arrangements with vocals from Agnes and co-production from Vargas & Lagola.

"Tough Love" co-producers previously worked with Avicii, born Tim Bergling, on hits "Hey Brother," "Sillhouettes" and "Without You." Before Bergling died, he was exploring sounds from north India, and he shared with the duo a musical loop one day inspired by these traditional styles.

"Oddly enough, the Indian influences fit perfectly into a song we were working on, something that was so typical of Tim" Vargas & Lagola's Vincent Pontare is quoted in a press release. "He was a melodic genius.”

When Bergling passed away, the song that would become "Tough Love" was about 80 percent complete. He left notes for the vocalists, suggesting that it should be a duet, preferably between a real couple. Pontare enlisted his wife Agnes to sing the song with him, and today, fans can hear the final result.

"Tough Love" is a summery, catchy dance-pop tune, the second single from forthcoming posthumous album Tim. It's out now on Universal Music. Listen below.
