Au/Ra & Alan Walker Share New Track ‘Ghost’ From ‘Death Stranding’ Soundtrack

The much-anticipated video game is out Nov. 8.
Ahead of the video game Death Stranding’s much-awaited release on Nov. 8, a new song from its genre-spanning soundtrack has been released.
On the heels of Chvrches’ “Death Stranding” comes “Ghost” from singer/songwriter Au/Ra and producer Alan Walker. It’s the pair’s second collaboration following their 2018 team-up “Darkside,” and the chemistry is palpable in this, with Au/Ra’s forlorn vocals providing an ethereal lightness to Walker’s hip-hop-inflected, bass-heavy production. True to its name, “Ghost” is dark, melancholy, moody — a brooding reflection upon a person and situation that has since faded away.
Death Stranding, which was developed by iconic Japanese video-game creator Hideo Kojima, finds its main character after the collapse of civilization. According to the game synopsis on the Playstation website, he must “journey across a ravaged landscape crawling with otherworldly threats to save mankind from the brink of extinction.”
In a press release, Au/Ra says that she wrote the song while getting used to frequently being away from home: “At that time I was feeling very disconnected from friends and family, and I needed to write something about that feeling of isolation. It ties in with the concept of Death Stranding — the isolation and disconnection in that world and its people, that the protagonist, Sam Porter, is trying to connect again.”
Says Walker, “It’s a true honor to play a small role in this release with so many other amazing artists…And I’m very excited to see what the game itself is like, Hideo Kojima is really a true legend!”
Death Stranding: Timefall (Original Music From the World of Death Stranding) is out on Nov. 7 and includes music from Major Lazer & Khalid, The Neighbourhood, Bring Me the Horizon and more.
