Ariana Grande Returns to Acting Roots in ‘Kidding’: Watch the Trailer


Ariana Grande returns to her acting roots with an upcoming appearance in Jim Carrey’s series Kidding. The Grammy-winning singer with the big vocal range guests in season two of the Showtime series. And yes, she sings.

Carrey told a TV critics gathering on Friday (Aug. 2) that Grande was game to be silly and have fun. Carrey plays children’s TV host Mr. Pickles who has a difficult family life off-screen. The Golden Globe-winning actor joked that he’s sure Grande was nervous singing with him. He calls Grande “a singular artist” whose vocal ability is like magic while he says he croaked out his performance.

In an Instagram post, Grande called it “the most special experience of my life.” She said she’s been a fan of Carrey since childhood. "There aren't words," Grande wrote alongside the snap with a string of cloud emojis in which she is seen smiling alongside Carrey, who is enveloping her in a hug. "i’ve been staring at my screen and no words do this moment justice… nothing is crazier than getting to work with and spend time with someone whom you’ve idolized and adored since before you could speak. actually, what’s even crazier is discovering that person to be more special and warm and generous in person than you ever could’ve imagined. i get to make a tiny appearance on the hilarious and deeply moving show Kidding next season."

Grande began her career as an actress, appearing on Broadway in the musical 13 and two Nickelodeon TV series, Victorious and Sam & Cat. At press time a spokesperson for Showtime had not returned requests for comment on how many episodes of the show Grande will appear in and what her role is on the series in which Carrey's beloved character years to share his grief over his son's death with his romper room audience.

The singer makes a very brief appearance in the season two trailer, which dropped on Friday. She is seen wearing a sparkly green dress and holding a starfish-shaped magic wand while tweaking the nose of the one of the show's puppets, Ennui Le Triste, a talking French baguette.
