Ariana Grande, Maggie Rogers, Lewis Capaldi & More Predictions for Album of the Year Grammy Nominations

Grammy Awards season is kicking into high gear, as first-round voting for the 2020 Grammys concluded Oct. 10, and nominations will be announced in less than a month, on Nov. 20. Nominees will honor the best in recordings released during the eligibility period of Oct. 1, 2018, through Aug. 31, 2019.

So, with the nominations announcement right around the corner, the Pop Shop Podcast team continues its series of episodes dedicated to forecasting likely nominees in the major categories. On the latest show, the topic turns to the contenders for album of the year, thanks to help from Billboard’s awards editor Paul Grein, who recently authored a story about predicting the nominations for album of the year.

In the episode (listen below), Pop Shop Podcast hosts Keith and Katie review Grein’s picks for likely locks for a nomination (including Ariana Grande’s Thank U, Next and Billie Eilish’s When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?), some of his runner-up possibilities (among them: Maggie RogersHeard It in a Past Life and Lewis Capaldi’s Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent), and even some outside contenders that Grein did not pitch (such as Sheryl Crow’s all-star Threads and Rosalía’s El Mal Querer).

If any of the above get nominated and win, they would join an elite group of previous album of the year nominees. Among past winners in the category? Adele’s 21, U2’s The Joshua Tree, Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours and The BeatlesSgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

The 2020 Grammy Awards will air on CBS on Jan. 26, 2020.
