Anne-Marie was only 11 in the year 2002, but the now-27-year-old singer/songwriter makes plenty references in her single "2002" to satisfy anyone's nostalgia for the era. She released an accompanying video for the upbeat love song Tuesday (May 8) that might feel a bit familiar.
The first scene the clip shows Anne-Marie's 11-year-old mini-me sitting in class, passing notes to a love interest. Soon after, the real Anne-Marie takes her place, donning an outfit that looks quite similar to one worn by Britney Spears in her iconic "...Baby One More Time" video from 1998 -- and that's the point.
After a cafeteria dance sequence, Anne-Marie is then spotted on an auditorium stage among a group human marionettes, drawing obvious comparisons to *NSYNC's 2000 hit, "Bye Bye Bye." Nelly, Dr. Dre and Jay-Z also get shoutouts in the lyrics as Anne-Marie tells the tale a childhood beau the time-traveling jam.
"2002" comes from Anne-Marie's just-released debut album, Speak Your Mind. Watch the video below, and brace yourself for a major throwback.
