“Old Town Road” isn’t getting tired anytime soon; English singer Courtney Hadwin released her version of the longest-running No. 1 hit on the Hot 100 today (Sept. 19).
Hadwin — clad in a swanky multi-colored leopard-print shirt — howls, “Hat down, cross town, livin' like a rockstar / Spent a lot of money on my brand new guitar” in the cover. Her soulful dance moves look like they could be cut from an Otis Redding performance, as she jams out with her two-man guitar and Cajon band.
The fan-favorite from season 13 of NBC’s America’s Got Talent says shewas taken by the track when current Billboard cover star Lil Nas X first released it Dec. 2018.
“I found ‘Old Town Road’ soon after it was released, and I knew I had to cover it my own way. I had this other version stuck in my head and I wanted to get it out there for everyone to hear,” the 15-year-old singer said in a press release. “It was so much fun putting my own spin. Nit and now it’s probably one of my favourite covers that I’ve done.”
Hadwin also put a more stripped-down, soulful spin on Jonas Brothers’ No. 1 hit “Sucker" last month.
