CNN has confirmed that a man recently shot himself in front the White House. According to their initial report, the self-inflicted shooting took place along the North fence line the White House. The Secret Service was quick to respond, and spokesperson Cathy Milhoan confirmed that the only shot fired came from the victim. As now, there’s no word on whether or not the shooter claimed his own life. The Secret Service actually took to Twitter to announce the news, writing “Secret Service personnel are responding to reports a person who allegedly suffered a self-inflicted gun shot wound along the north fence line White House.”
As a result, traffic in the area is being impacted. The motive the shooting is far from clear, but it does have the air a statement. Regardless the man’s intent (the Secret Service also confirmed his gender Twitter), President Trump and First Lady Melania were far from Washington when the shooting occurred. The President is currently in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, although he is set to return tonight for the annual Gridiron Club Dinner.
Trump has apparently been briefed, but has so far remained quiet on Twitter. This story is still developing.
