21 Savage Says Drake Deserves More Credit For Helping New Artists: 'I Don't Think He Gets His Respect for That'


The rapper also reveals that Drizzy is the ‘only one’ that bought him a present for his birthday.

After stringing together a multitude  bangers including “X,” “Bank Account” and “No Heart” at the early points his career, 21 Savage began garnering respect from many marquee artists, most notably Drake. In a new prile published by GQ, Savage chats about his relationship with Drizzy and how the self-proclaimed 6 God deserves more recognition for accelerating the careers new artists.  

“He did a lot shit he didn’t have to do,” Savage says. “He do a lot shit for up-and-coming rappers, period. I don’t think he get his respect for that. Every fuckin’ year, he pull a new artist up. Ain’t no other artist on his level do that shit.”

When Savage was on the cusp stardom, Drake snatched him for his record “Sneakin'” in 2016. Later, the pair teamed up for the visuals. Aside from joining forces with Drake for the lavish, lo-fi video, he also was gifted a red Ferrari for his 24th birthday by OVO's commander-in-chief. “He the only one that got me something for my birthday that year,” Savage told GQ. “Don’t nobody else get me shit but Drake.” 

Last year, Savage wreaked havoc on the hip-hop game when he released Issa Album and his acclaimed joint project Without Warning alongside Offset and Metro Boomin. According to Savage — who has been busy on tour with Post Malone — he is currently working on his sophomore album, which “will include R&B elements.”
