“Can I pick you up for 20 minutes so we can have a dance party to my new single?" That’s what L.A.-based pop singer Mario Jose asked some his closest friends before pulling up with a rainbow-striped Tesla to film Carpool Karaoke-style footage for his new music video, “You Were The One,” (out today).
“As we passed people on the street, we giggled because all the glares we got being in a rainbow Tesla,” Jose tells Billboard. Passengers in the fun-filled clip include Pentatonix’s Scott Hoying, This Is Us star Chrissy Metz, Broadway babe Shoshana Bean and The Four breakout Vincint.
“You Were The One” was inspired by a real-life relationship: “this particular love story happens to be about one my best friends I grew up with and how she fell in love with her now-husband,” the singer says. He teamed-up with producer Joel Manduke (who also appears in the video) to create the summer love sound.
Several other singers, songwriters and media personalities make cameos in the clip: Brooke Simpson, Beck Pete, Sam Tsui, Vince Rossi, Ryan Parma, Jordan Doww, Michael Mancuso, Carrie Manolakos and Brandon Stansell can all be seen jamming out to the track.
